Ian’s Aw11 Mr2
Posted on November 20, 2011 by Jesse O'Brien in Featured Cars
The first-generation Toyota MR2 was a game-changer in daily drivers. It implemented design elements typically only seen in high-end exotic cars, priced for everyday people who wanted an exciting car to drive every day.
Ian’s AW11 is a shining example of how much the little MR2 can live through and still come out exciting and reliable on the other end.
From the outside, it looks a lot like any other 80′s car.
Pop open the driver’s door, and you’re invited inside by a well-worn Sparco Evo seat, eager to hug you tightly through all the twists and turns the road offers.
All the controls are within arms-length, with a drift-style hydraulic e-brake fitted and fighter-jet shifter.
In the back, you’ll start to see the design changes that set the AW11 apart from its competitors.
With the small but respected 4age fitted into the engine bay behind the seats. Moving more of the car’s weight to the rear offers improved handling over almost every other drivetrain platform, while offering the same efficiency advantages of a typical front-wheel-drive vehicle.
Stay tuned for more info on Ian’s cars and feedback on what driving one of these little beasts is like.

this is what its capable of, enjoy~
Other than the music, I love it. Even over bumps in the track, it looks composed and predictable. It also looks like a ton of fun!
Man this car brings me back. One of my friends had this car and loved it!
I loved my 87 MR2 right up until the rod bearings went. have you ever tried getting bearings for an 87? pissed me off when I kept getting small journal bearings when I needed large journal.
Did you ever end up getting the right ones?
