Cash for Clunkers bill passes

In case you hadn’t heard already, Cash for Clunkers has passed House.  The important thing to note is that any vehicle less than 25 years old but manufactured before 2001 is elegible.  As of today, that means this bill won’t be taking any vehicles older than 1984 off the road.  As far as I’m concerned, that’s a win.  We won’t be losing any “classics”, but you might want to stock up on what will soon become Japanese Nostalgic cars, like the Honda CRX or older Mazda RX-7′s.

It’s hard to say how much this will really affect, and I think it’s mostly going to rely on heavy advertisement in order for people to become aware of it.

That being said I walked by a Lexus SC400 today and felt my heart drop. Here’s a car I love because they’re only worth about $2,000 in GREAT shape and have one of the most amazing modern DOHC V8 engines that suffer only from a pathetic range of options for transmissions.

…and they could all disappear with this bill.

Well, Looking it up the SC400 was rated at 18.So it’s right at the limit of the bill. So I guess not THAT many cars will actually quality for this rebate, voucher, or whatever you want to call it.

It’s still scary that this passed so easily as a federal bill.
